Are you being kind?

“Self-care is never a selfish act—it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer to others.” – Parker J Palmer.

It’s a given that we should be nice to one another. It usually comes naturally to us to be gentle with others, to show kindness. But what about when we flip the focus around? Are we showing the same love or compassion to ourselves? Are we truly practising kindness? Or are we busy rushing around after everyone else and disregarding our own needs entirely?

Here’s Dr Claire Maguire to explain…

There’s nothing wrong with tending to the needs of others. Quite the opposite!  However, if this care giving comes at the expense of your own wellbeing, then it starts to become a problem. All of a sudden there is nothing left over for you… And you are important too!

With self-kindness and compassion in mind, we have a little task for you. It involves thinking about a few of small, manageable actions you can commit to over the coming days. These actions are to be completely dedicated to you and focusing on showing yourself some love, self-kindness and appreciation.

So be kind. Be kind to everyone you meet, including yourself…
